Earlier this year, we teamed up with the Irish Independent to give away a bathroom makeover worth €10,000. This fantastic prize was so sought after - and it's to understand why. It's a massive prize, and we were delighted to discover that the randomly selected winner was someone whose bathroom was almost half a century old!
Brendan Timlin from Co. Meath is 79 years old and his bathroom ware hadn't been changed since his home was built 49 years ago. Here's what it looked like before the makeover.
After he won his prize, Brendan and his daughter Carmel travelled to our showroom in Dublin 15 where our staff helped them decide which of our products would suit best in the bathroom.
Carmel explained: "All the staff there have been so good to us and really helpful. Nothing is a problem. It's like everyone was involved in it with him."
She added: "We chose items from the brochure and the staff went through it with us when we went to the showroom. They advised us and could order anything not in stock. It was really enjoyable. The showroom is fab and the quality is second to none."
So Brendan ended up choosing the fabulous Calisto 1700x700 whirlpool bath with 12 jets - perfect for relaxing dips. He opted for a Belmont bath panel to finish off the sleek look. He also had a shower installed to replace the old shower, which was above the bath. He went for the Gemini Thermostatic Kit, which is a great option thanks to its safe anti-scald heat settings. He chose the Otto Plus vanity unit, the Forge heated towel rail and the Azzorre accessories range. The look is complete with a fabulous mirror.
Carmel said: "He's most excited about the jacuzzi bath. We'll probably never get him out of there! His old bathroom was 49 years there, since the house was built. It was a cast iron bath so it was such a job to carry it out."
She added: "There was lino on the foor and DIY tiling over the bath so he's loving the new floor to ceiling tiling. He loves the power shower ..its fantastic! He only had a shower over the bath so it's great that he can just walk into the shower now."
They also love the extra features and details like the waterfall tap and the mirror lighting. Carmel said the entire bathroom has a wow factor that they love. She said: "We have a family gathering this weekend so he can't wait to show it off!"
